Making it work ... for who?
Between the 27-28 of november 2025 the European Economic and Social Committee - EESC and Migration and Home Affairs directorate host the 10th Forum on migration. A laudable effort, really.
The discussions centered this time around the harnessing migrants strength in the job market whilst combating illegal work practices. The topic seems catching, but in the discussion, it seems there is a lack of comprehension as to what the difference between integration and inclusion is.
Just by opening up or creating space for migrants in diverse workspaces is neither effective as a method of integration or is it proactively accurate as a means of inclusion. There needs to be more demands on the employers to go beyond creating space to also understanding the migrants. Besides, most employers take the time to know regular employees so why not one who is a migrant.
Just to say, the reality of job integration appears to be more of a narrative propagated to make stakeholders happy that somethings "seems" to be done. What we probably need more is inclusion that focuses more on giving migrants agency and a place at the decision table.
more to come...
